Nature Notes/ Think Green Thursday:Fixing your animals

I usually find ways to combine these two because the “nature” we are photographing is dependent on the care we give it. On our camping trip for field day this year one of the members had to bring their baby kittens becuse they rescued them and with no mama at something like 5 weeks they could not be left behind. One of my backup choices for a job after school was to start in animal control but with my mom being sick all that stuff is on hold right now, I did however do a lot of research, it is so important to fix your animals, I know it is “Your ” animal and no one should tell you what to do but you owe it to the rest of the World, yes world to fix them. Why the world? Well to set the example for countries the cannot or will not understand why it is so important, to set an example for future generations here, and to take the burden off everyone that shares an existance with you in this world your wants should not become their concerns.
According to the Los Angeles Animal Services One unneutered male can impregnate dozens of females (LAAS, 2008) With the grace period almost a year ago (Oct 2008) there are no excuses we all need to do it.
One good reason because after the third violation, non-compliance is a misdemeanor (LAAS, 2008) Some other great reasons… Spaying and neutering may eliminate undesirable behaviors such as fighting, spraying, and roaming, Spaying and neutering reduces or eliminates the risk of certain types of cancer that can kill your pet or be expensive to treat. and Spaying and Neutering are humane and life affirming means of ending euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets (LAAS, 2008)
So now that you have heard my noise lets look at the kitty’s!
And gotta have a closeup, you can click on wither of these to make bigger

A wonderful post Amanda!
I wouldn’t have a cat or dog any other way. As much as I love kittens and watching them play I know there is no way to find GOOD homes for a litter of kittens.
Now I can’t wait for Thom to post something new so I can get on to him about not liking cats.

This is so very important Amanda and thank you for posting about it. My sister is a vet and does spays and neuters as a volunteer and has as long as I can remember. Our local SPCA won’t allow you to adopt a pet until it has been fixed. So many animals are euthanized especially cats and kittens because nobody wants them. I am sorry to hear that your career plans are being put on hold due to your Mother’s health. I am dealing with that too, but I am old. LOL. Also I think that I read that you had gotten married and congratulations to you and your new husband. I wish you a long and happy (and healthy) life together..Michelle

Michelle,
there a re lots of things that need to be addressed every animal we own/ed is a rescue/save. It is sad that I feel like I cannot go out and buy a pup because there are so many needy pets!

Hello Amanda, thank you for writing about this important subject! The thought of how many unwanted kittens and puppies result in people not having their pets spayed or neutered is heartbreaking. It is exhausting for a female to have to keep on producing litters, and what will happen to those cute balls of fur when they are all grown up and no-one wants them? Here in the UK there are organisations which will do the operations for free, just to prevent the suffering. I bet you have organisations that will do the same.
And on the bright side… what beautiful kittens, it’s good to know that they were rescued – they are the lucky ones
Thank you for visiting my blog, and have a good weekend!

We have have orgs that will fix but it can be complicated. For many people it is not the money it is the result of many things like making the time, or just plain being responsible. Yep I will be fixing the little Grey tabby with the orange spot on its head that is the one Layna wants. TY right back at you Bird!
